Abstract
In February 2004, Elite Model Management (NY), an affiliate of the largest modelling network agency in the world, Elite Model Management, filed a petition under Chapter 11 of the US bankruptcy code. Elite Model Management (NY) had long been mired in controversies and law suits on charges ranging from price fixing and a hostile working environment to sexual harassment of a model by the founder of the agency, John Casablancas. The case, while giving a glimpse into the business of modelling agencies, explores the reasons for the bankruptcy of Elite Model Management (NY) which once had supermodels like Cindy Crawford, Naomi Campbell and Linda Evangelista on its list.
