Abstract
Information technology (IT), information and communications technology (ICT) and information systems (IS) are often used interchangeably and have been contributory to firm performance. However, non-technical business executives and owners do not understand their role in the management of information systems and often leave technology decisions to IT people. This introductory note is intended for business managers and owners who need to understand the role technology plays in business and their role for the successful implementation of technology systems - the information systems context.
