Abstract
The Turkcell case deals with the complex issue of the fast growing telecommunication market in Turkey. The case highlights some major challenges facing Turkcell, including over-taxation of the mobile communication industry and the threat of new competitors, both internally and externally. The case covers the background of modern Turkey and the history of telecommunications in Turkey. It also presents aspects of the company's short life since its formation in 1994, including being the first Turkish company ever listed on the NYSE (New York Stock Exchange). This case was sponsored by the Indiana University CIBER Case Collection.
