Abstract
The case focuses on how a claims adjuster can ensure the genuineness of a property claim. The case also examines the level of investigation required for this, and how the adjuster should conduct the investigation on receiving a new claim. Moreover, the case discusses the investigation of the cause of loss by the property claims adjusters, on the basis of the inspection of the property and the policyholder''s statement. The case is structured to enable students to: (1) understand the role of a claims adjuster in the claims adjustment process; (2) determine the various problems that hamper the process of loss adjustment; and (3) gain insight into the required level of investigation and identification of the cause of loss. The case is intended for MBA/PGDBM level students as part of the insurance operations curriculum.
