Abstract
The top management team of The Learning Company, a leading education software company, was becoming increasingly concerned of their decline in market share, despite their aggressive acquisition of five small to large education software companies. They were reviewing their strategic options in 1997 given that they were strapped with USD500 million in debt or almost 1.5X sales. Decisions had to be made concerning further acquisitions, acquisition integration, product rationalisation, and financial restructuring. Furthermore, students have a chance to see if the programme was worth it, by re-examining their financial statements.
