Abstract
Bio-informatics is the application of information technology (IT) to the life sciences. Given the established strength in IT, several Indian firms are looking at entering this market. The case profiles the strategies of established IT firms as well as start-ups. The case highlights the challenge of finding a business model in an emerging industry, extending capabilities into new domains, and building high technology firms in the developing world.
