Abstract
This is the third of a three-case series (303-221-1 to 303-223-1). The cases concern Schering AG, a multinational pharmaceutical company headquartered in Berlin, Germany. It provides competitor information for Schering''s two most important markets: the world market for hormonal contraceptives and the world market for multiple sclerosis drugs. Together with case (B) strategic challenges and potential competitive strategies for Schering can be discussed based on various exercises like for instance customer (need) profiles, key success factors, analysis of the worldwide market and regulatory situation, a five forces analysis, an analysis of resources and capabilities, SWOT. The case may be used in graduate MBA and executive level courses in business strategy, in international management, and strategy relating to pharmaceuticals and biotechnology.
