Abstract
This is a case study which chronologically covers the key events in Coloroll from 1979 to 1989. In 1979 it was a wallcoverings manufacturer that had only recently moved into co-ordinating textile manufacturing under the paternal direction of John Bray. By 1989 it was involved in: wallcoverings; cutlery; glassware; carpets and floorcoverings; earthenware; textile manufacturing; and furniture manufacturing. This had been achieved by a series of larger acquisitions under the aggressive direction of John Ashcroft, idol of the Stock Market and Guardian Young Businessman of the Year 1987.
