The case provides insights into the tussle for control over Tamilnad Mercantile Bank (TNMB). It explores a takeover dispute between the bank''s promoters (the Nadar community) and the corporate forces of the Essar Group and Sterling Computers. The case is structured to enable students to see how disputes within the Nadar community led to the Essar Group acquiring a 67% stake in the bank.
