Abstract
This is the seventh of an eight-case series (301-146-1 to 301-149-1 and 302-037-1 to 302-040-1). This case describes US-based Pharmacia and Upjohn. During the period 1998-1999, the company conducted research, development, manufacturing, marketing, and sales of pharmaceutical products. Areas of focus included prescription and non-prescription drugs, chemicals, and products for food and animals. The case offers a summary of activity in these key areas. Revenue and balance sheet information is also provided. May be used alone or with others in the series Global Biotechnology Winners. Suitable for graduate MBA and executive level courses in strategy, corporate strategy, and strategy relating to biotechnology and pharmaceuticals.
