Abstract

This technical note is to accompany the case ''Her Majesty''s Prison Barlinnie: The Live Case Study'' (302-135-1). This note discusses a current initiative in the development and pedagogical uses of case studies with MBA students. The objectives of the live case study approach are discussed, the model introduced and the processes involved are considered in contrast with the limitations of the ''traditional'' approach. This framework is then tested using a public sector organisation case study. The steps followed in implementing the live case study are discussed. An overview of the written case study is given, highlighting the main strategic issues. There is then evaluation and reflection of the ''live case study'' technique and discussion of further research requirements.
