Abstract
This case focuses upon the international start-up of a telecommunications firm in both Hungary and Poland up to 1997. The case is written in two parts and is based upon interviews with company executives, literature provided by the company, and secondary sources. In part (1), the story of Monar Telefon Tarsasag (MTT)''s start-up and success in the Hungarian market are addressed. In part (2), the results of an interview are given focusing upon the expansion of the firm into Poland. This two-part case allows for strategic analysis of the international business environment generally and telecommunications industry specifically. Additionally, the case allows for discussion of general management topics in a cross-cultural environment. This case was sponsored by the Indiana University CIBER Case Collection.
