Abstract
The case studies labour problems at the Salt Lake factory after the company decided to sell it. It highlights the problems between the company and its workers and examines the reasons that resulted in the conflict. The case is designed to encourage students to think about the ''human factor'' in the context of major policy decisions. Though the workforce was to remain intact in the sale, workers were still opposed as it involved a complete change in ownership. This case is engineered to drive home the importance of managing labour relations in the context of major policy decisions of the company involving a change in ownership. At the end of the case discussion, students should have an understanding of the ''people problems'' caused due to the absence of labour representation in policy decisions. The case is aimed at MBA/PGDBA level students as part of the human resource management/organisational behaviour curriculum.
