Abstract

The case examines the HR measures taken by software major Wipro to get itself assessed on the People Capability Maturity Model (PCMM) standards. The case also discusses the evolution of Capability Maturity Model (CMM) and PCMM standards besides examining the potential benefits for Wipro after the certification. The case is developed to enable students: (1) to understand the importance of quality standards such as PCMM for a leading software player in a global market; (2) to understand the various levels of CMM and PCMM, their components and implications in implementation; (3) to learn the various steps and methods involved in the implementation of the programme and its implications; (4) to gain insights into the nature of commitment needed by the top management in establishing a quality programme; and (5) to assess PCMM''s contribution to the success of a software company. The case is intended for MBA/PGDBM level students as a part of the human resource management/organisational behaviour curriculum.
