Abstract
The case is intended to give a detailed insight into India''s oil major Bharat Petroleum''s (BPCL) transformation of its petrol pumps into modern retailing centres. The case examines the reasons behind this move and also the mechanisms adopted by the company to effect the changes. The case is so structured as to enable students to understand why and how BPCL was working towards transforming its petrol pumps into retailing outlets. Students should understand why the impending deregulation of the oil industry had made it imperative for the company to provide more and improved services to its customers. The case is aimed at MBA/PGDBA students taking the marketing curriculum.
