Abstract
Modine Manufacturing is a global company that supplies parts to a variety of industries including the automotive industry. It has partnered with Daimler-Chrysler to deliver cooling modules to its new assembly plant in Toledo, Ohio. Modules are delivered with a very short lead-time and in the sequence are needed on the assembly line. By doing this, both Modine Manufacturing and Daimler-Chrysler achieve substantial benefits. In addition, Daimler-Chrysler pays for the modules only as they are installed in the finished product, the Jeep Liberty. This provides additional savings in cost and time. The case provides the opportunity to describe and understand the potential benefits of sequence part delivery and pay as built systems and to discuss what might be the next step for this partnership.
