Abstract
The case examines the Indian experience with prohibition, with special reference to the imposition of prohibition in the states of Haryana and Andhra Pradesh. The case also provides information regarding alcohol, alcoholism and prohibition, and presents the arguments of both prohibition''s supporters and its critics. The case is so structured as to enable students to: (1) examine the political, economic and social consequences of liquor on society; (2) discuss the ethical dilemma of the liquor business for governments, industry and society; and (3) explore feasible alternatives to the dilemma faced by companies regarding their economic performance and social responsibilities. The case is aimed at MBA/PGDBA students, and is intended to be a part of the business ethics elective curriculum.
