Abstract
Founded in 1997, FuzzyMobile was the first to launch the concept of games for mobile phones and its objective is to become the European leader in downloadable games. In 2002 the company publishes through twelve portal and telco operators in Europe and employs 100 people. The market forecasts are very positive, but different technologies and business models are fiercely competing. The ''standards'' war is key in this business. As an associate in a venture capitalist fund, students are asked to perform an analysis of FuzzyMobile and more specifically to assess the following issues: (1) bargaining power inside the value chain; (2) service provider vs technology provider in the game business; (3) soundness of FuzzyMobile''s business model; (4) threats in the ''standards'' war; (5) credibility of FuzzyMobile''s business plan; and (6) should the venture capitalist fund invest in FuzzyMobile? The teaching note is available as a paper copy or a PowerPoint file
