Abstract
The case examines in detail the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) implementation exercise at Bharat Petroleum (BPCL). It focuses on the IT infrastructure put in place and BPCL''s IT initiatives before the ERP implementation. The case is structured to enable students to understand: (1) how BPCL utilised IT effectively to strengthen its market position; (2) how the company is using IT as tools to gear up for the post-APM era; and (3) the technical aspects of an ERP implementation. The case is aimed at MBA/PGDBA students and is intended to be part of the knowledge, information and communication systems management curriculum.
