Abstract
Jaakko Poyry Group is a Finland-based consulting and engineering company concentrating mostly on the paper-and-pulp industry. The company pioneered in internationalisation, having significant operations abroad since the 1960s. In the 1990s, a new business area - contracting - is proving to be highly profitable, and the case introduces us to Jaakko Poyry International, contracting business, one of the seven main companies within the Group. JPI has identified Southeast Asia to be a very lucrative market, and the company should decide how to exploit the opportunities, or if they were to stick to their traditional business areas. Issues presented include company culture, risk exposure, new business opportunities, cultural differences, and the small size of JPI.
