This case traces the corporate history and development of ASM Pacific Technology Limited (ASMPT), a public-listed 'technology' firm in Hong Kong from 1975 to 1999. The company was founded in 1975 as a two-man outfit, encapsulation equipment and materials imported from the Netherlands and the USA. By 1998, the firm had developed and operated, mass-manufacturing award-winning semiconductor products, and had operations in China and Singapore.
