Abstract
This is the first of a two-case series (501-009-1 and 501-068-1). In tracking the evolution of a small Danish insurer into a leading and premium priced international provider of health insurance, the IHI case demonstrates several key issues in the growth - strategic as well as geographic - of a service firm. In particular, it illustrates what a service oriented company does in a modern economy to be able to command a premium in a mature, price-sensitive sector, as well as the key factors necessary for successful globalization. It also poses some important future growth questions and options. This case contains colour exhibits. A video ''501-009-3'' is available to accompany the case series.
