Abstract

This case is most appropriate for undergraduate students in the latter part of an introductory marketing course; the early part of an international marketing, marketing channels, or marketing strategy course. The teaching objectives are: (1) to familiarise students with the marketing environment of South Africa; (2) to introduce students to the basic go/no go decision for exporting as an international market expansion option and understand some of the complexities of exporting food products; (3) to provide students with the opportunity to analyse the advantages and disadvantages of various types of marketing channel intermediaries/distribution options; and (4) to help students identify the factors related to appropriately choosing a specific intermediary.
