Abstract

Professor Ted Roach in the course of his aquaculture research had developed a fish rich in polyunsaturated fatty acids. Research has found these substances to have health benefits such as the prevention of coronary heart disease. He asked Professor Laurence Whiting as part of a multi-disciplinary project to assess the marketability of polyunsaturated fatty acid (PUFA) fed fish products, specifically the species sturgeon and eel and to identify the characteristics of the market initiators of PUFA fish products. There are two complementary approaches to this case study; the student can take the role of Professor Whiting and determine the research methodology and design a questionnaire to achieve the research objectives or alternatively the student can take the role of Professor Susan Trout whom Professor Whiting has asked to critically evaluate the research methodology and the design of his questionnaire.
