Abstract
This is the first of a two-case series (499-013-1 and 499-014-1). Kathryn Ekdal, one of the first women to earn an MBA from a US Top 10 graduate business school must decide whether to accept an employment offer in a different industry. She has been employed by The Baltimore Bank continuously for almost 15 years since graduation from the prestigious Wharton School. The Baltimore Cable Company is offering her more money, an interesting career challenge, and an opportunity to overcome career stagnation in her present position. The A case provides a wealth of data accumulated from interviews, contemporaneous notes and memoranda, and performance evaluation documents. The B case provides Ms Ekdal''s reflections on her decision, the organisational culture at the bank and additional data. The case has been used to explore the work and life choices of sales persons in the financial industry. It can also be used to explore work/life issues, career management, leadership and executive development.
