Abstract
In April 1996, Richard Gourlay was on the verge of making a profound career change. After 10 years as a journalist for the Financial Times, latterly as Growing Business Correspondent, Richard was now considering a job offer from Top Technology Limited (TTL), a UK venture capital company focusing on high-tech start-ups. Richard''s deliberations had been upset, however, by the recently announced departure of one of TTL''s four investment managers. Already apprehensive about the implications of this career move, Richard now wanted some time to digest this new information: what were the implications for TTL, and more importantly his prospective role within the company?
