Abstract
Mr Nikon Raviyan, Director of Catering Services at Thai Airways International Public Company Limited (THAI), seemed pleased when Jean-Francois Fauveau presented him with a catering contract to supply Air France with meals. Golbert Klein, Regional Catering Manager of Air France, smiled as he watched. THAI was among the fastest-growing airlines in the Pacific Rim; the airline had a fleet of 77 aeroplanes and served 73 destinations in 35 countries. THAI flew to more countries in Asia than did any other airline. Successful expansion led to a desire for even greater expansion, and this was often done by means of joint marketing with other carriers. However, concern was raised about the risks of expanding too quickly. In particular, rapid growth could lead to the loss of control. To please Thailand''s growing Muslim minority, and foreign passengers who adhered to the Islamic faith, it was decided that all types of meats served on THAI would be Halal; yet this was not necessarily the case with code-share partners.
