Abstract
Bodegas Caballe is a recruitment simulation which calls on participants to deal with cultural and strategic issues in international recruitment. Working with a detailed brief from the President of the company, outlining strategy and culture, participants are provided with four complex applicant profiles and assigned to select the best candidate for an export sales position of Spanish wines to Central European mass food retailers. Through a four-phase process, participants gain insight into the complexity of establishing relevant criteria in recruitment, measuring skills/risk trade-offs in hiring, measuring applicant growth potential vis-a-vis long-term company goals. Highly interactive, the simulation requires participants to pass from ''gut feelings'' to realistic skills analysis and assessment, the integration of company strategy and international involvement levels into the recruitment process, and a reflection on the need for company control over its personnel through cultural/management mechanisms.
