Abstract

This case affords the student an opportunity to explore the multiple considerations of designing a control system to support a recently formed product line organisation. It provides the background information of the company and a brief history leading to the division''s decision to move to a product line structure. The case questions centre around an exploration of the management control perimeters of the organisational design, including the motivation, measurement and control aspects of the new organisation. The over-riding theme is to see how the finance function can add value to the decision making. This is a real situation but the identity details have been disguised.
