Abstract
This is an industry specific case study that describes developments in the UK communications market since its liberalisation in 1984. It aims to give a basic overview of a fast moving market where a number of players offering a host of services compete. The major issue the case identifies is the local loop and the investment that will be needed to cope with the datawave explosion. A number of technologies are described and the students must decide how to come up with a strategic plan. Students appreciate the planning challenges in such a dynamic and uncertain market and are exposed to the use of simple scenario planning models.
