Abstract
New venture creation is an area of continuing interest as a career choice for many students. The ability to construct a well researched business plan is fundamental to the success of many new businesses. This case is principally designed to provide a platform upon which the content of a business plan can be considered and the type of research required to develop such a document. In addition the case gives an opportunity to consider the profile of people who become entrepreneurs. The case is written around a duo''s initial efforts to negotiate for the lease of a retail food outlet, located in a busy city centre shopping centre. The material is presented in three sections: (1) background to the individuals, inception and development of the business opportunity; (2) draft business plan; and (3) conclusion. For teaching purposes the case is useful in tutorial sessions which explore the traits and characteristics of individuals who become entrepreneurs and as a basis to discuss the typical sections of a business plan. Alternatively the case can be used as a problem based learning exercise which challenges students to investigate new business planning and the type of activity required to complete a new venture proposal.
