Abstract
This case is based on a report presented to a County Council. The report was written from a survey to assess areas of poor psychological health, sources of stress and poor coping amongst employees. The report was used as basis for deciding on a number of initiatives to improve well-being amongst Council employees. This case is intended for advanced under-graduate students, studying stress and stress management as part of courses in organisational behaviour, human resource management or occupational psychology. The aims of the case are to show to students: (i) the processes by which stressful work conditions and stress outcomes are assessed; (ii) the consultation processes occupational psychologists use in auditing stress at work and recommending organisational action; and (iii) some of the practical problems of stress management in practice.
