Abstract
This is the first of a three-case series which can be used individually or in conjunction with each other. The case is a one session illustration. It shows the challenges a leading technology company faces at the end of the millennium in living up to its vision and providing a 'better place to work'. The case provides background on the industry and HP's strategy. It explains different alternative work models such as tele-working and desk-sharing and places the objectives of an introduction of these models in a broader context. HP is a 'pioneer' in developing and using alternative work models. The case allows the reader to recommend a suitable approach to the issue and offers many different and tested alternatives in order to rethink the modern workplace.
