This case considers the roles and responsibilities of the business consultant with particular regard to business planning and management accounting. The reader is invited to represent the role of the employee of a consultancy which services the agribusiness industries of Bulgaria. The client in the case is the Bulgar Vinimpex company - producers of three quality wines to service Western European export demand. The company seeks advice regarding its current product portfolio. A collection of financial data from the most recent year suggests there may be a case for removing one particular product group and possibly replacing this with an alternative. Secondly the reader is provided with a further collection of market and environmental statistics in order to clarify the company''s management strategy through the incorporation of a Business Plan. The case should also enable students to identify the importance of partial budgeting and break-even analysis as financial indicators of the short term implications of management decision-making.
