Abstract

The case study deals with the identification of the current accounting and finance needs of Northern Ireland Electricity (NIE), of the limitations of the existing computer system and the recommendation of a new computer package to meet not only the current information needs but also the anticipated future needs. The case study deals with the supply business operations of NIE with particular reference to the billing of the customers, monthly (large commercial and industrial customers) and quarterly (domestic and small, commercial and industrial customers). Apart from processing the actual information to produce the monthly accounts and to produce reliable, efficient and prompt customer invoices, the computer package should be able to predict future trends in line with changes in the internal and external environments so that budgets and business plans can be produced.
