Abstract

Capitano Mironero is a captain for a small tourist airline in Venezuela and he''s dreaming about starting up his own tour company. The plane he''s flying now is always full so there seems to be room for a competitor. What he needs, though, is money to buy (or lease) a plane and a partner to handle the business end of the operation. It''s unlikely that he''ll get a great deal in a joint venture with someone from Venezuela. The ideal situation would be to find a partner who could use the plane during the rainy season (May-July) and convince this person to let Mironero use the plane during the remaining months in exchange for a portion of the profits: i.e., a partner in a northern country (e.g., Canada) who already has a plane as they cost so much now. Marketing mix: services are perishable - Mironero needs service attitude and plays the role as a captain, attendant and tour guide. The service could be distinguished from competitors by flying on a lower altitude (discover Venezuela from above) and charging less money (fuel is very cheap in Venezuela).
