Abstract

The case aims at highlighting the various obstacles encountered when working within a group - specifically a group of undergraduate students whose goal is to complete case study analyses of their own. The focus of this case is on the group itself with some attention given to specific academic solutions to the group enigma. Group interaction, or working with people, is an extremely valuable and elusive skill. The interaction and handling of personalities often produces unpredictable results. Techniques like parking boards, brainstorming sessions and formal leadership can be used to assist with mechanical and personality issues, but there are no assurances for success. The case attempts to give the reader an insight into what can go wrong in a typical group. For individuals with little or no formal group experience this case study can be an eye opener. For those with previous group experiences this case study might serve to reinforce thoughts and ideas previously experienced.
