Abstract
This is an authentic case from the period 1992-1996, and is based on Grace Packaging (CRYOVAC)''s selection of a suitable site for a production plant internationally. The Division of W R Grace & Co (Boca Raton, Florida) is the world''s leading innovator of flexible packaging systems, providing superior quality products and services for specialised customer needs. The purpose of the case is to introduce students to the multitude of internal and external organisational issues involved in changing modes of servicing a market. Moreover, it serves to familiarise students with the emerging markets in South East Asia, pertaining to cultural, social, political, and economical aspects. The case is targeted to either upper level undergraduate students or MBA students. It is mostly suitable for strategic planning, logistics, or international business courses. Best results are recorded in situations where students have been working in multi-functional groups representing functional areas in accounting, finance, information systems, management, and marketing.
