Skandia International, headquartered in Sweden, is one of the world''s leading reinsurance companies and also comprises local, country-based insurance businesses. It is seeking to compete on knowledge by building a ''platform of know-how''. Information Technology (IT) is crucial to this endeavour. The case describes the IT architecture being developed, the IT management processes and the evolution of the RINET electronic distribution network for insurance and reinsurance in Europe. The Skandia case is a good vehicle for examining issues of global management of IT.
