Abstract

This is the second of a two-case series (395-005-1 and 395-006-1) looking at an innovative collaboration between St James''s Hospital, Leeds, and Lucas Engineering System Ltd Project (B) outlines the rationalisation of purchase and supplies throughout the hospital. They needed to generate savings to pay for Projects (A) and (B) and the new system has gone on to provide considerable savings to the trust thereafter. A ''kanban'' delivery system was developed for ward supplies and a system of materials management was implemented by the traditional purchasing department. This is probably more of a case history to be used as a basis for class discussion.
