Abstract

The case describes the situation in the Management School of an imaginary university in London, England. The management of the school are faced with a number of human resource management problems relating to organisational design, organisational change, human resource planning, recruitment, selection and equal opportunities. Some of these problems have their roots in the past whilst others relate to the needs for internal changes to meet expected new demands from the market. The case describes a situation which would appear to call for rapid management intervention to deal with immediate and pressing problems which must be handled at the same time as longer term adjustments need to be made.
