Abstract
EuroDisneyland''s trading performance over the past two years is examined. It is suggested that poor results cannot be blamed on ''locational'' or ''cultural alienation'' factors, but are primarily attributable to the imbalance of the capital structure of EuroDisney. This, in turn, brings into focus the business ethics of the parent company, Walt Disney Co., which determined both the nature of the capital funding of the project, and its management structure. A background to the Walt Disney Co., leading up to the hostile take-over bid in 1984, is provided in an attempt to illustrate the nature of the ethos of the company when Eisner and Wells took control. It also provides an insight into corporate management thinking when Walt Disney Co. set up EuroDisney as a wholly owned overseas subsidiary.
