Abstract

This provincial crown corporation, which is the largest information technology organization in the province, must deal with strategic issues of changing customers, technology, and organizational matters. This case is based on the concerns of the new president of the organization, with changing customer demands, technology development and competitive requirements in an increasingly uncertain future. The case highlights relevant issues and leads to the drafting of a Request for Proposals for a consulting firm to undertake a strategic review of the company. These issues, which students are able to see, including technology direction (information technology platforms and architectures), market direction, competitive developments, and organization culture. The actual Request for Proposals is included in the teaching note (394-135-8). In addition there is a follow-on (B) case available (394-136-1).
