Abstract

A guide for non-accounting students, who need to provide a degree of financial analysis as part of a case study exercise, whose main concern is with management strategy. The guide looks not only at ratio analysis - sometimes the only tool of financial analysis used - but also at other techniques of financial analysis which can be used in conjunction with ratios to gain a more rounded picture. It is illustrated throughout with examples of the techniques to aid students'' of ratio analysis and includes a section on cash flow statements and their predecessor, funds flow statements. The overall aim of the guide is to get students to realise that financial analysis is not just about number crunching ratios, but about the intelligent and sensitive use of a variety of techniques and sources of information.
