Abstract
The Indian Iron and Steel Company (IISCO) was modernizing its Burnpur Steel Plant. The Steel Plant had always been crucial in determining the organizational viability of IISCO. An earlier failure in modernization had resulted in the takeover of IISCO by the Government. The technology modernization programme entailed a restructuring of the organization. The case presents the basic data pertaining to the restructuring decision. The data has been presented in the form of an organization analysis using McKinsey''s 7-S framework. The case attempts to provide an integrative perspective to technology modernization decisions.
