Abstract
This case traces the introduction and expansion of office automation, particularly word processors and micro computers used for administration, in an academic department over a period of six years. It is a true case, and the process of change was difficult and uncomfortable. The case raises issues concerned with planning and control, responsibility for instituting and implementing change, and the behavioural aspects of introducing this new technology.
