Abstract

The case describes the activities within the Plate Preparation Shop in a heavy engineering company. A full description is given of the information flows associated with the planning, scheduling and control of jobs in the shop. The main function of the case is to introduce students to a complicated scheduling and control situation and for them to devise improvements, especially those involving information technology.
