Abstract

FPI, Canada''s second largest fishing company was owned by the federal and Newfoundland governments. It holds the largest fish allocations off Canada''s Atlantic coast and harvests and processes more cod and flatfish than any other company in North America. After losses of $55m during 1984/85, FPI made a dramatic turnaround and recorded a profit of $43m in 1986. FPI was privatised on 15th April 1987.
