Abstract

The manufacturer of speciality industrial hose fittings and assemblies finds it necessary to expand with branch plants in the USA and foreign countries to meet competition. Plants were established in Canada, Scotland and Holland to gain access to ''Outer Seven'' and the ''European Common Market''. Some language problems were encountered with personnel, as were differing marketing customs, differing personnel problems, currency exchange, and differing technical standards of products in various markets. The case is useful to point out problems that USA companies face when expanding to foreign markets.
