Abstract
This is a role-play case study which confronts first line managers with the repercussions of autocratic management. The proposals put forward are far-reaching with uncomfortable effects on all first line management positions. The roles to be played by the participants are based on real life management functions but have been combined with personal characteristics which would distort the negotiations enough to provide useful learning experiences for the players. Flexibility is built in to enable tutors to adapt the content to special requirements of their students.
